The Griswolds’ “Beware the Dog” remix by Autograf is now streaming at Noisey (http://bit.ly/1u7tPAG). Autograf is a production trio from Chicago known for founding a new wave of electronic music called “Future House/Summer.”
The Griswolds’ debut LP Be Impressive, produced by Tony Hoffer (Beck, Foster the People, M83), was released this summer to immediate acclaim with Paste hailing they’re “on track to make a splash with their catchy, rock-infused pop sound” while indie-blog and taste-making label Neon Gold furthers, “their euphoric slice of indie pop brings to mind the youthful exuberance of Vampire Weekend with the nonchalant cool of The Strokes.”
The album’s single “Beware the Dog” continues to gain support from key radio stations including KROQ and WXPN, and has been #1 multiple times on Sirius XM’s Alt Nation “Alt 18.” The song has approximately 6 million worldwide streams and continues to appear on the Spotify viral chart. Additionally, it peaked at #5 on Billboard’s Twitter Emerging Artists Chart.
Of the record, band member Chris Whitehall (vocals/guitar) explains “We wanted to make a fun record that touches on deeper feelings we all have from time to time; that idea of balancing out maturing and wanting to have fun and live life the way you want to. Knowing that growing up can be painful, but those experiences add up to something fun. It’s about that cusp of being a carefree kid and an adult.”
The foursome has kept busy since release, having just wrapped a massive headline tour in Australia. Stateside dates to be added soon. Additionally, the band’s Whitehall recently lent vocals to a song by Little Daylight called “My Life” (http://bit.ly/ZOprJj).
The Griswolds was born at a Sydney house party where Whitehall challenged friend Daniel Duque-Perez (guitar/synth) to write a riff on the spot. Duque-Perez explained, “Chris thought that riff was really fun and interesting, and it turned into our first single, ‘Mississippi.’” After an EP and forays to the U.K. and U.S., the band—Whitehall, Duque-Perez, Tim John (bass) and Lachlan West (drums)—were itching to record a full-length and signed with American super-indie Wind-Up Records. “You only get to make one debut album,” says Duque-Perez, “and we wanted to make ours as impressive as we possibly could. Working hard and late nights mean nothing when you’re working on something you love. So ‘be impressive’ became something we thought about all the time.”
