Gold Lake’s Years Coming November 4th
GOLD LAKE DEBUT ALBUM YEARS OUT NOVEMBER 4
GLASSLANDS SHOW CONFIRMED FOR NOVEMBER 9
Gold Lake’s debut album Years will be released on November 4 in the U.S. The band – who spent this past summer supporting the likes of Midlake and the Lumineers – are confirmed to play Brooklyn’s Glasslands on November 9 and will be touring the US in early 2015.
Years was recorded at La Cabaña studios in Madrid and produced by the band. The album was engineered by Jose Nortes and mixed by Phil Ek (Fleet Foxes,The Walkmen, Father John Misty). “Working on this album with two great people was very important to us. Jose engineered the album back in Madrid when we decided to head into the studio to lay down some of the ideas we’d been having for a while,” says Gold Lakes’ Carlos Del Amo, “and then Phil came in and made it all pretty. It was an incredible experience to watch him do his magic, his 3D signature mixing is pure perfection, plus he is the nicest guy out there.”
Stereogum recently premiered the single “Lovers” off Years and said “Gold Lake’s name truly captures the sound of the Spanish trio: a glistening amalgam of intimate vocals and scintillating instrumentation…. The crux of this song is the vulnerability in the vocals that are strategically sandwiched between two episodic bursts of instrumentation. The waling, lo-fi guitar that cries out from a distance in the beginning cuts out at the minute mark, replaced by the closeness of Lua Rios’ stunning vocals layered over a twinkling guitar.”
The band have also released the first single from the album, “Arles,” which you can stream it here: https://soundcloud.com/gold-lake/01-arles-phil-ek-mix
Gold Lake is Lua Rios, Carlos Del Amo and Dave Burnett. The genesis of Gold Lake began in Spain when Carlos and Lua met in Carlos’ hip night club in Madrid in the midst of the Spanish capital’s music scene. Discovering a mutual love of the 60s and 70s bands from the West Coast, the Laurel Canyon bands, as well as the atmospheres Eno created for Bowie in the 70s the two began writing music together. They soon decamped to Brooklyn and started Gold Lake first as a duo, and then transforming into a trio after meeting Dave.
Gold Lake have toured consistently since their formation playing out in NYC as well as at festivals including LA’s Culture Collide Festival, NXNE festival in Toronto, Northside Festival in NY and Austin’s SXSW. In addition to supporting the Lumineers and Midlake the band have supported Basia Bulat, Peter and the Wolf, Ivan & Alyosha and Nada Surf.
On Years Gold Lake have created a sound which shimmers and glimmers, and for the older fans an evolution and growth in sound. With a heavy use of harmonies and instrumental passages Years touches on the themes of new experiences, new tragedies and new joys – influenced of course by Rios and Del Amo’s move from Madrid to NYC. It brings to life that unsure yet exciting emotion that lives within Change.
“We Already Exist” was the first single from Years and the band made a video directed by Christian Sorensen Hansen. It premiered via Nowness. Spin called the track “majestic” and Wild Honey Pie said “the song has a delightfully chimerical appeal, featuring calming percussion, glistening guitars and beautifully camouflaged vocals.”
