“BEING IN LOVE” PREMIERES AT PITCHFORK

INTIMATE TOUR BEGINS NEXT WEEK

On March 17, acclaimed musician Glen Hansard will release It Was Triumph We Once Proposed…Songs of Jason Molina, an EP of material in tribute to his friend and colleague Jason Molina. Jason Molina is the revered singer-songwriter behind the project Songs: Ohia, who passed away two years ago this March.

As a special preview, the lead track “Being in Love” is streaming now at Pitchfork (http://bit.ly/1tlhFnB). The EP is also available for pre-order now (http://bit.ly/oc34preorder) and all profits will be donated to a charity in Molina’s honor.

In 1996, upon hearing the Songs:Ohia debut 7”, Nor Cease Thou Never Nor, Hansard was moved to a point that he contacted Molina and invited him to Dublin. Those early visits led to friendship and mutual admiration of each other’s work. From then, Hansard had a great affinity for covering Molina’s songs live and referencing him as an important artist whom influenced his own work.

Of It Was Triumph We Once Proposed…Songs of Jason Molina, Hansard explains, “Jason Molina was a hero and a friend, I wrote him my first fan letter, I always loved his music and singing these songs is the only way to make sense of losing him.”

The EP also features their friends, the musicians Jeff Panall, Jennie Benford and Dan and Rob Sullivan. These five had known Molina since his days at Oberlin and had toured and performed with him on such key recordings as Didn’t It Rain and Magnolia Electric Co. See below for full track listing.

Hansard will further support the EP on a short, intimate tour next month. His small band features bassist Brad Albetta, keyboardist Thomas Bartlett and violinist Rob Moose, who all played a significant roll on his 2012 release Rhythm & Repose. An upcoming record is likely for fall 2015. See below for tour routing details.

Hansard is renowned for his work as the songwriter behind Once—the movie and musical, along with his work as one half of The Swell Season and lead singer of famed Irish band, The Frames. The New York Times hails, “Glen Hansard is a gifted, emotive frontman who sings as if he must, with a heart on his sleeve that is constantly throbbing.”
