Los Angeles, CA – (June 5, 2014) – For Los Angeles-based pop duo – Giorgi and Leo, the past several months have been nothing short of thrilling. From having Fashion Fringe and IMG Fashion invite them to perform at their 10th anniversary event in front of a who’s who of the global fashion community including Fashion Fringe founder Colin McDowell and Burberry CEO Christopher Bailey, to having their tribute to Prince’s mega-hit “When Doves Cry” championed by Sat Bisla of Passport Approved, 2014 is shaping up to be a breakthrough year for Giorgi and Leo.
On June 25th, the seminal album Purple Rain turns thirty years old, and to celebrate Giorgi and Leo have partnered with ArtisDirect to bring you the worldwide video premiere of their tribute to the living legend directed by Justin Coloma (Smashing Pumpkins, Peter Murphy, Eagles of Death Metal).
“When Doves Cry”, the top-selling single of 1984 was the first American number one single for Prince. To date, the Purple Rain album has sold over 20 million copies worldwide, and is listed as the sixth best-selling soundtrack album of all time.
“When Doves Cry” was the very first song to come to our minds when we were first thinking of doing a cover,” says Leo. “We both really loved the feel of the song, and it had been a favorite of both of ours since before we were even together.”
“The process of recording this cover was really fun for us because its solidity as a song really gave us the freedom to interpret the emotion of its story and explore sound. Prince’s lyrics resonated with us. When words ring true it’s easy to take them on as your own and it’s natural to then want to express them. We wanted to bring to life the images that played through our minds when listening to his words and what they meant to us.”
