George Fest: A Night to Celebrate the Music of George Harrison, hosted by The Best Fest and sponsored by Jameson Irish Whiskey, was a huge sold-out success at The Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles last night. Curated in partnership with the Harrison Estate, an incredible line up of artists came together to pay tribute to George Harrison through performances of their favorite Harrison classics.
The show was originally intended to take place at The El Rey, but due to an overwhelming fan response (tickets sold out in minutes), it was moved to the larger Fonda Theatre to accommodate the demand for tickets. The additional allotment of tickets also sold out in record time, and the electricity could be felt throughout the room. As always, the Best Fest’s acclaimed Cabin Down Below Band provided the incomparable accompaniment fronted by the illustrious cast of musicians that included, Brian Wilson, Al Jardine, Perry Farrell, Conan O’Brien, Ann Wilson, Weird Al Yancovic, Dhani, Harrison, Norah Jones, Wayne Coyne, Brandon Flowers, Britt Daniel, Ben Harper, Ian Astbury and many more. The complete set list and lienup is below.
To help musicians and their communities, Jameson has committed to providing resources and support via The Jameson® Neighborhood Fund. Last night’s George Fest in LA benefited the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund with 100% of net ticket sales going to the charity. Sweet Relief was the natural choice for the Jameson Neighborhood Fund charity for LA as they provide support to all types of career musicians who are in times of need.
The show coincided with the major reissue of George Harrison’s first six solo albums, released between 1968 and 1975 on The Beatles’ Apple Records label, digitally remastered from the original analogue masters. The Apple Years 1968-75 was released on September 22nd. Designed to complement Harrison’s 2004 collection, The Dark Horse Years 1976-92, the new box features an exclusive DVD with several video pieces, including a new seven-minute film with previously unreleased footage. The Apple Years box also includes an exclusive perfect-bound book with an introduction by Dhani Harrison, new essays by award-winning radio producer and author Kevin Howlett, and rare and previously unpublished images.
