Gavin James will open for fellow Dubliners Kodaline on the “Ones To Watch With Skype” tour, which will kick off on April 15 at St. Andrew’s Hall in Detroit, MI. The North American outing will include shows at Terminal 5 in New York City (April 25), The Wiltern in Los Angeles (May 5) and Chicago’s House of Blues (May 18).
James will perform on Thursday, February 19, at the US-Ireland Alliance’s annual Oscar Wilde Awards, which will be emceed by J.J. Abrams at Bad Robot in Santa Monica, CA. The invitation-only, pre-Academy Awards event attracts a wide variety of Hollywood heavyweights and creative artists, including past attendees such as Stephen Spielberg, Jon Feltheimer, Tom Cruise, Julia Roberts, Robert De Niro, Colin Farrell and Conan O’Brien.
Capitol Records introduced James to U.S. audiences with Live At Whelans, which is now available everywhere, including iTunes and Spotify. The album captures a rapturously received Dublin show, including the 22-year-old artist’s pin-drop account of a one-sided relationship, “Nervous,” which can be streamed HERE, and a soulful cover of The Magnetic Fields’ “The Book of Love,” which can be heard HERE.
Diffuser.FM hailed Live at Whelans as “intriguing…an addictive first tug in what promises to be a lengthy assault on listeners’ heartstrings.” Released in international markets via GS Believe, the album climbed to #1 on iTunes in Ireland shortly after the pre-order launched.
Following a tour of the States with Seinabo Sey, James performed a rousing set atop the roof of the landmark Capitol Records Tower in Hollywood, CA. Next up are sold-out shows in London, Amsterdam and at The Olympia Theatre in Dublin. The March 20 hometown show marks the first time an artist has sold out the historic Irish venue before releasing a studio album.
James started playing guitar at the age of eight and comes from a family with a rich musical heritage – both of his maternal great grandparents were famous Irish Opera singers. He has already won Ireland’s answer to the Mercury (the Choice Music Prize for Song of the Year). Say Hello, James’ Irish debut EP, charted for more than six months, leading to a string of sold-out headline dates and supporting tours with such artists as Lianne La Havas, Beth Orton and Marina & The Diamonds. Clash has praised him as “tender, emotional…no mean talent” and Hotpress noted, “The fresh-faced soul machine possesses the power to hush a room.” He is currently writing and recording his debut studio album.
