ORIGINAL LINEUP CELEBRATING 20th ANNIVERSARY
(Los Angeles, CA – April 22, 2014) – G. Love & Special Sauce are pleased to announce the release of their new album, Sugar, available everywhere today via Brushfire Records. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of their first album, G. Love & Special Sauce, the original lineup launched a 45-date tour across the U.S. in February, performing the classic album in its entirety in the first part of their set. G. Love, upright bassist James “Jimi Jazz” Prescott, and drummer Jeffrey “The Houseman” Clemens will join the Summer Sessions Tour this summer, which will also feature Slightly Stoopid, NOFX and Stephen Marley. A complete list of dates is available below.
Recorded mainly at Brushfire Records’ “Solar Powered Plastic Plant” studio in Los Angeles,Sugar captures the unstoppable energy of a band who got their start in Boston bars in the early ’90s and still play up to 150 shows a year. “We wanted to take it back to the old-school vibe of the first record, those rich, warm sounds from when we were rocking small clubs and going on that acoustic feeling,” says Prescott. To deepen that dynamic and push their sound into new directions, G. Love & Special Sauce called in guest musicians including legendary vocalist Merry Clayton (featured in the Oscar-winning documentary 20 Feet From Stardomand best known for her duet with Mick Jagger on the Rolling Stone’s “Gimme Shelter”), Los Lobos guitarist David Hidalgo, Marc Broussard, Eric Krasno, Shamarr Allen, Kristy Lee, and others.
G. Love & Special Sauce have released a series of videos from the album, all directed by Grammy-award winning director Emmett Malloy. This previously unreleased video for “Bad Girls Baby Blues” was shot in a roadside motel room in California, and features G. Love performing the song solo on an electric guitar.
