“Sans radio single, sans famous rapper cosign, sans beats from super producers, the Bay Area-native has leveraged blog exposure, social media reach and a relentless touring schedule into a sizeable fan base.” – VIBE
Coming off a sold out 40-date North American headline tour, the release of tracks “Far Alone” featuring E-40, “Let’s Get Lost,” “I Mean It,” and “Lotta That” featuring A$AP Ferg, G-Eazy’s highly anticipated album These Things Happen topped the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop and Top Rap Albums Charts at #1, and garnered the #3 position on both the Billboard 200 and Top Digital Albums Chart. The extraordinary #1 debut puts G-Eazy in the same position as debuts from today’s top artists such as Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole and Schoolboy Q, a testament to G-Eazy’s rabid, grassroots fan-base built through strong digital content and consistent touring – a blueprint for the evolving music industry. To celebrate, one of hip-hop’s biggest stars, Rick Ross, hopped on the remix to G-Eazy’s current single “I Mean It” yesterday.
In addition to sales, These Things Happen had over 2 Million US streams in its first week of release on Spotify, ranking it as one of the highest album debuts in the US in 2014. Spotify identified G-Eazy as a Spotlight artist of 2014, championing him through the Emerge program last fall, and hosting a live performance at theSpotify House at SXSW during this year’s festival.
Released on June 23rd with all physical and digital retailers via BPG/RVG/G-Eazy, These Things Happen features an impressive lineup of collaborators with appearances from E-40, A$AP Ferg, Jay Ant, Devon Baldwin and Blackbear, as well as longtime production partner Christoph Andersson. These Things Happen received a strong response from critics as well, with Billboard proclaiming G-Eazy is “The Young Elvis” in a multi-page feature story. The New York Times stated that G-Eazy is “clever, approachable and extremely legible” on These Things Happen, while VIBE exclaimed “G-Eazy is, in fact, already a star, or at the very least destined to become one.” Additionally, in the coming weeks MTV will roll out G-Eazy as their “Artist To Watch” starting in mid-July, and FUSE just named G-Eazy a “FUSE Favorite.”
As G-Eazy continues to promote These Things Happen, he will soon be traveling overseas for yet another European performance at the Wireless Festival UK on July 4th and 5th. This follows G-Eazy’s recent trip overseas with stops in Berlin, Amsterdam, London, Paris and more for his first European tour. Additionally, G-Eazy is set to perform at the first-ever mtvU Fandom Awards at Comic-Con on July 24th at Petco Park in San Diego, CA along with Linkin Park.
With an impressive rollout, highlighted by stellar, movie-quality music videos, These Things Happen is packed with fan favorites including G-Eazy’s ode to the Bay Area “Far Alone” featuring E-40, which was featured as the iTunes “Single of the Week,” accumulating over 500,000 downloads. Other favorites include “Tumblr Girls,” “Been On” and recently released, hard-hitting songs “I Mean It” featuring Remo and “Lotta That” featuring a high energy verse from A$AP Ferg, which catapulted to #21 on the Hot Rap Songs Billboard Chart upon its release.
These Things Happen comes on the heels of G-Eazy’s sold out, 40-city North American headline “These Things Happen Tour,” which sold over 40,000 tickets and received rave reviews from the New York Times to the Oakland Tribune. The past year has seen huge growth for G-Eazy that included a sold out headlinetour, a Billboard Music Awards performance post-party, and going on Lil Wayne’s America’s Most Wanted Tour. G-Eazy’s 2012 offering, Must Be Nice, reached #3 on the iTunes Hip Hop chart and garnered media acclaim from outlets such as Billboard, MTV, Interview Magazine, VIBE and The Source.
