Frank Turner’s The Third Three Years Coming
FRANK TURNER ANNOUNCES THE THIRD THREE YEARS OUT DIGITALLY ON TUESDAY, MARCH 10 AND PHYSICALLY ON TUESDAY, APRIL 14 VIA XTRA MILE RECORDINGS SXSW APPEARANCES CONFIRMED INCLUDING XTRA MILE RECORDINGS/ INGROOVES/FLOOD MAGAZINE PARTY ON WEDNESDAY, MARCH 18 “THE WAY I TEND TO BE” (PIANO VERSION FEAT. MATT NASIR) (FROM THE THIRD THREE YEARS) As it’s been 10 years since his first solo gig and nine years since his first solo recording, it seems a fitting time to unveil the next installment of Frank Turner‘s compilation of non-album rarities titled The Third Three Years. Being released on Tuesday, March 10 (digital) and Tuesday, April 14 (physical), The Third Three Years will be available in North America through Xtra Mile Recordings, Turner’s long-standing UK-based home. Pre-order through Xtra Mile Recordings is available HERE as well as through iTunes HERE. Kicking off with a studio version of live favorite “Somebody To Love” by Queen, Turner dips into a lively rambling trip around his beloved UK with EP track “Sweet Albion Blues,” strips back for a rousing yet level-headed take on the 2011 London riots on “Riot Song” (naturally) and reveals a hidden gem from the Tape Deck Heart demos, “Something of Freedom.” The next slab of music is Turner’s more recent covers and collaborations ranging from the sublime (Emily Barker‘s “Fields of June,” contributing vocals) and the affecting (“Big Foot” by The Weakerthans, previously unheard) to the raucous (“Happy New Year” with Jon Snodgrass), and the unexpected (a Noel Coward cover). Throw in some true American classics such as “American Girl” by Tom Petty and “Pancho & Lefty” by Townes Van Zandt and you have an intriguing glimpse into Turner’s diverse musical leanings. The compilation concludes with a number of live and alternative versions of Turner’s songs and one Bruce Springsteen cover, the timeless “Born To Run.” Matt Nasir from The Sleeping Souls accompanies Turner on incredible, new, stripped-back & raw versions of “Plain Sailing Weather,” “Tell Tale Signs” and “The Way I Tend To Be,” while the rest of the Souls get an outing on the appropriate, final, full-band live version of “Dan’s Song.” The past three years has been an astonishing time for Frank Turner. It has seen his latest full-length album, Tape Deck Heart, enter the UK Charts at Number 2; previous albums, England Keep My Bones and Love Ire & Song, being certified gold and silver respectively, selling out Wembley Arena, playing the London Olympics Opening Ceremony and headlining his own UK arena tour. And probably, most importantly, winning “Celebrity Mastermind.” It’s a testament to his relentless work ethic that he’s also managed to amass a variety of music that makes up this 20+ track selection. Comprised of original songs, live takes, covers, digital only tracks and songs from tribute albums, iTunes sessions, guest spots and collaborations, unreleased or unheard demos and radio sessions, The Third Three Years is a must have for any Frank Turner fans and collectors alike. Frank Turner will be making live and speaking appearances in the U.S. around SXSW this March (including a headlining slot on the Xtra Mile Recordings/INgrooves/Flood Magazine Party on Wednesday, March 18) and throughout 2015. More dates and performances to be announced soon.
