Flagship will be taking up residency at The Chapel in San Francisco beginning August 14 with additional dates on August 21 and August 28. Prior to the show on August 21, Bright Antenna will host a VIP happy hour. To attend, please RSVP HERE. The band has been chosen as the inaugural artist for Smule’s New Artist Program where Flagship will release three songs in Smule’s catalog. They have also recorded a performance of their single, “Are You Calling,” into Smule’s Sing! Karaoke app. Fans will be able to join Flagship to record a duet with the band.” The site will present the final night of the band’s residency on August 28. The band has also just confirmed that they will play The Satellite in Los Angeles on August 27.
Flagship recently shared a new video for “Gold And Silver,” which Earmilk says “shares a distinct sense of depth, ranging from a chant worthy chorus to a guitar-focused break at its climax. Through its entirety, the easing drive is brought on by a slow-tempo, but active drum beat, where the vocals go from a hush to a surrounding hook.
Of the track “Waste Them All” from Flagship’s self-titled album, Nylon Guys (U.K.) declares the track “is simple but has a massive feel…after we fell in love with this track we had to give the rest of the record a listen and it’s completely on point with the single.” Of the song, “Life Underwater,” The 405 proclaims, “The song is equal parts The National, U2, and Washed Out, and is another slice of indie-rock greatness from the band. 2014 is shaping up to be one hell of a year for them.”
Flagship’s self-titled debut comes on the heels of 2012’s Blackbush EP and is out now on Bright Antenna Records. The album is garnering critical acclaim—Consequence of Sound praises the album saying its “pastoral folk rock graces of bands like Fleet Foxes and Grizzly Bear, with occasional detours into wide-eyed pop catharsis,” and American Songwriter describes the band as “reminiscent of the best of The National and old school U2.” The new album was recorded with celebrated producer Ben Allen, best known for his work with Animal Collective, Washed Out and Youth Lagoon. Of the sessions Allen said, “It’s really satisfying as a producer to hear the song sound complete and epic right when it’s being recorded live, as opposed to having to edit, tweak and mix until it feels that way.”
In 2011 solo singer, songwriter and guitarist Drake Margolnick joined local musicians Matthew Padgett (guitar, backing vocals), Michael Finster (drums, programming) and Grant Harding (keys) forming Flagship. Christopher Comfort joined on bass in 2012. The band has become a staple of their hometown club scene and was voted Best Local Band for Charlotte Magazine’s 2013 Bob Awards.
