Fall Out Boy’s American Beauty/American Psycho Hits #1
FALL OUT BOY ROCKETS TO #1 ON BILLBOARD CHARTS FOR THIRD TIME WITH AMERICAN BEAUTY/AMERICAN PSYCHO
Band’s sixth studio album debuts at #1 with more than 218,000 total consumption following 2013’s #1 debut of Save Rock and Roll
Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum selling artists Fall Out Boy’s sixth studio album American Beauty/American Psycho debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200, marking the band’s third #1 album. The album – released January 20 on Island Records & DCD2 Records – racked up more than 218,000 total units consumed, further cementing the group’s position as one of rock music’s biggest-selling bands. The album peaked at #1 on iTunes in 22 countries, with #1 chart debuts in Canada and Japan and Top 5 debuts in the UK and Australia.
The record’s first single “Centuries” was certified platinum and has been streamed more than 80 million times between YouTube and Spotify alone. The band most recently performed the song at the 2015 NHL All-Star Game on January 25 and the 41st annual People’s Choice Awards on January 7 in addition to it being featured on the first ever College Football Playoffs this year. Fall Out Boy’s TV takeover continued with performances of the song on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Today and LIVE! with Kelly and Michael. The track is currently climbing toward the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Additionally, the track “Irresistible” and the highly-buzzed about “Uma Thurman” have already found their way to the Hot 100 chart on the heels of a massive release week.
American Beauty/American Psycho’s #1 debut marks a 40 percent increase over their first week sales of Save Rock and Roll’s debut at the top – a rare feat in the music industry’s current climate.
Entertainment Weekly bestowed an “A” grade on the album, citing that the band, “against all odds… have claimed an elusive status as elder statesmen who still have both ideas in their skulls and fire in their bellies” while Rolling Stone praises that “when everything connects… Fall Out Boy are a glorious nexus of Seventies glitter rock, Eighties radio pop, Nineties R&B and Aughts electro stomp.”
Fall Out Boy will take the record on the road this summer on the Boys of Zummer tour alongside Wiz Khalifa and special guest Hoodie Allen. The tour kicks off June 10 in Camden, NJ and will continue through cities including Chicago, Toronto, Nashville, St. Louis, Atlanta, Dallas and Las Vegas before concluding at Los Angeles’ famed Hollywood Bowl on August 10.
