Emily Terndrup & Derrick Belcham’s Debut Debuts
FOLLOWING THE SUCESS OF “THE WILDER PAPERS,” EMILY TERNDRUP (SLEEP NO MORE) & DERRICK BELCHAM (LA BLOGOTHEQUE) PRESENT “DEBUT” OCTOBER 7TH, 8TH & 9TH
“Debut” is a new evening-length production set in the sprawling 60,000-square-foot space of the Knockdown Center in Queens, NYC, and premieres October 7th – 9th.
Following the success of “The Wilder Papers” at the same space earlier in 2014, Emily Terndrup (Sleep No More, Gallim Dance) and Derrick Belcham (La Blogotheque, A Story Told Well) have developed their most ambitious project to date, “Debut,” merging independent music, contemporary dance theater and a large-scale art installation.
Performed live by a cross-disciplinary cast of emerging artists, “Debut” is an expansive evening of divergent paths that traverse an experiential narrative following a group of teenagers who break into an abandoned building on the evening of their senior prom.
Throughout the evening, the music, lighting, costume and set design will actively evolve to reflect the shifting perspectives of the characters and audience.
“Debut” features original music written and performed live by Julianna Barwick, Mauro Remiddi (Porcelain Raft), Ruby Kato Attwood and John Ancheta (Yamantaka // Sonic Titan), David Moore (Bing & Ruth), Jessie Stein (The Luyas), Hannah Epperson, and Reed Smidebush (Muuny).
Choreographed by Emily Terndrup in collaboration with the dancers and assistant choreographer Mallory Lynn, the performance features dancers Rebecca Margolick, TJ Spaur, Emma Judkins, Brendan Duggan, Matthew Ortner, Ross Katen, and Emily Terndrup.
Ruby Kato Attwood and John Ancheta, in addition to their musical work, will be heading up a massive installation process in the voluminous interior of the center, taking place over a two-week residency leading up to the show dates.
