DRY THE RIVER Unveil Exclusive First Listen of Sophomore LP on
WNYC’s Soundcheck
Alarms in the Heart Out August 25th, US Tour Dates Announced for the Fall
UK indie-rockers Dry the River will release their anticipated sophomore album Alarms in the Heart on August 25th via Transgressive Records/PIAS. As the follow up to their critically acclaimed debut Shallow Bed, the new album features a more expansive, bold, and cohesive sound to mark an undeniable step up in both diversity and volume. Earlier today, the band premiered an exclusive First Listen of the album a week before its release on WNYC Soundcheck.
Soundcheck’s Mike Katzif stated “Alarms In The Heart further showcases Dry The River’s skill in building quaint, folk hymnals into a chest-thumping choruses and elegant Baroque pop songs into impassioned cascading showstoppers. Yet even from Liddle’s first quavering notes of the opening title track, it’s evident Dry The River has upped the ante on its operatic flourish.” Katzif continued, saying “Alarms In The Heart is the sound of a band mastering the art of sweeping climaxes and heartfelt moments as a means to reconnect with real life.”
In order to capture the sound they were searching for on the new record, the band decided to isolate themselves in the desolate countryside of Iceland. Last week, they released a special short film about the making of the album via PopMatters. “Recording in Iceland was about shutting ourselves off from our daily lives and our heavy touring schedule to rediscover what Dry the River means to us,” said frontman Peter Liddle. “We suspected it would be some kind of otherworldly experience, and it was: beautiful and alien, lonely and taxing but ultimately rewarding.”
