Donn T’s “Midnight” Sets Up EP
DONN T’s “MIDNIGHT” ARRIVES TODAY
New single is released ahead of EP release, with full-length to follow in early 2015.
Enigmatic artist has worked or performed with Jill Scott, Little Dragon, Amy Winehouse, Patrick Stump and more.
Eclectic singer/songwriter Donn T makes a triumphant impression on the music scene with her new single “Midnight.” The first release on Donn T’s D-Tone Victorious label (distributed by MRI through RED, a division of Sony Music Entertainment,) the dramatic midtempo song is available on iTunes, Amazon and many other digital outlets today, September 2.
The regretful lyrics of “Midnight” were inspired by a telephone conversation Donn T had with a good friend while staying at New York City’s Ace Hotel. “Words were spoken, a misunderstanding. It was silly. The encounter caused me to consider how difficult it is at times for two people to simply say, ‘I’m sorry.’ This song winks at the inauspicious task of taking the low road. Elton John said it best, ‘Sorry seems to be the hardest word.’ “Midnight” is the opening salvo in an onslaught of new music from Donn T. The song will appear on the EP Gramophonica, which will be released later in the fall. A full-length album entitled Flight Of The Donn T will be released in early 2015.
Steering innovation, Donn T, is the quintessential independent artist and do it yourselfer. Her previous album, 2010’s Kaleidoscopic, received international acclaim and led to stints performing with an eclectic array of artists ranging from Amy Winehouse to Marsha Ambrosius to Zap Mama to Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump. Donn T’s songs have also appeared in various forms of visual media, including the BET feature film I Will Follow, the Showtime crime series Street Time, and in ads for the wireless audio product Sonos. Donn T has racked up songwriting credits, including “I Am Music” by Common featuring Jill Scott. The Philadelphia native comes from a storied musical lineage. Her grandfather was Beachy Thompson of the pioneering gospel group The Dixie Hummingbirds. Her father is Lee Andrews, leader of legendary doo-wop group Lee Andrews & The Hearts. He was also in the soul group Congress Alley, along with Donn T’s mother, Jacqui. Donn T’s brother, Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson, is a Grammy-winning musician and bandleader of The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon. Family ties notwithstanding, Donn T is a unique talent in her own right.
