Dhani Harrison, Paul Hicks and Jonathan Sadoff of the critically acclaimed band thenewno2 are excited to announce their debut TV score for The Divide, WE TV’s first original scripted series.
This is the second film Harrison, Hicks and Sadoff teamed up on, as they scored the major motion picture Beautiful Creatures, which LA TIMES said, “The movie’s got a cool alt-rock sound thanks to the haunting music of the band thenewno2.”
“The Divide score has been a real pleasure to work on. Right from the beginning Tony (Goldwyn) wanted it to be dark. Music to our ears as the instrumentation that he liked really lent itself to our style of music, says Dhani Harrison. We only saw the show one episode at a time so each week we built on where we thought it would go. As the show went on we got more and more opportunities to perfect this sound until it all really came together for the final four episodes; it’s anxiety provoking, dark electro with a heartbeat.”
thenewno2 (whose 2012 sophomore album, thefearofmissingout, was praised by NPR for “radiating a restless energy that helps it sound both independent-minded and eager to please” is led by Grammy Award winner Dhani Harrison, three-time Grammy Award winner Paul Hicks (who has worked with Coldplay to Placebo as well as worked on the complete catalogues of the Beatles, John Lennon, and George Harrison) and Jonathan Sadoff (who has scored films such as Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, A Good Old Fashioned Orgy). The band’s inception started while Dhani Harrison teamed up with Jeff Lynne, serving as co-producer on Brainwashed (George Harrison’s, his father’s, Grammy-winning final studio album). Working hand-in-hand with Lynne-and gaining a wealth of knowledge from the legendary producer/musician-inspired Dhani to keep focused on music rather than circle back to industrial design.
In February of 2013 thenewno2 released their original score and soundtrack for the major motion picture, Beautiful Creatures. The score was created over an extensive three-month period in both their studio in Los Angeles, CA as well as London, England, where they recorded in the famed Abbey Road’s Studio 2 alongside a 54-piece London based orchestra. Since his band’s inception, Harrison has also tirelessly expanded thenewno2 as an art collective. Along with designing all its own packaging and artwork, thenewno2 directs its own videos (including the wonderfully trippy “Another John Doe” from You Are Here). What’s more, thenewno2 releases each of its offerings through H.O.T. Records Ltd., the self-helmed record label that allows thenewno2 to fulfill its ambition of operating wholly independently of the mainstream music industry.
About The Divide:
The eight-episode series is written by the Academy Award® and Emmy® nominated Richard LaGravenese (Behind the Candelabra, The Fisher King, Water for Elephants, The Ref, The Bridges of Madison County), with Tony Goldwyn (Scandal, Conviction, Justified, Damages, Dexter, A Walk on the Moon) directing the premiere episode. Co-created by LaGravenese and Goldwyn, the series is produced by AMC studios. The Divide is a thought-provoking and suspenseful drama that explores the personal cost of morality, ambition, ethics, politics, and race in today’s justice system through the eyes of Christine Rosa played by Marin Ireland (Homeland, Boss, Side Effects), an impassioned caseworker with The Innocence Initiative, and Adam Page played by Damon Gupton (The Newsroom, Prime Suspect), an equally passionate district attorney and political rising star. LaGravenese and Goldwyn also serve as executive producers along with Emmy® award winner John Tinker (The Practice, Chicago Hope) as the showrunner, and co-executive producer, Andrew Sugarman (Shopgirl, Conviction).
