David Bowie Gets Honored In Chicago

Mekons’ Jon Langford and Sally Timms to Honor David Bowie at Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Art for Sold Out Show
on Nov. 21st

Museum Exhibit “David Bowie Is” Will Feature Performances, Lectures, and Film Dedicated to the Glam Rock Legend

Beloved Welsh-born Chicago punk rocker and visual artist Jon Langford is scheduled to be a part of the upcoming exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago dedicated to glam-rock legend David Bowie. Langford, alongside fellow Mekon Sally Timms, will perform a sold out show on November 21st for the “Bowie Changes” cover series which features musicians playing Bowie tunes in their own unique form.

“David Bowie (the weird cross-dressy ancient seedling of punk) brought Newport’s wannabe football hooligans into the record stores and youth club discos,” said Langford. “I admire my parents fortitude back in 1972 when my bedroom walls were plastered with pictures of Newport County footballers and glam rockin’ transvestites!”

The exhibit, titled “David Bowie Is,” will run from September 23rd to January 4th and feature lectures, films, and other additional performances throughout the upcoming months. Among the events, Bryan Ferry of Roxy Music, director Todd Haynes (I’m Not There, Velvet Goldmine, Mildred Pierce), and Of Montreal’s Kevin Barnes are scheduled to participate in lectures at the museum. A documentary titled David Bowie Is Happening Now, directed by Pulp’s Jarvis Cocker about the exhibition, will be screened. Other performances includes The Disappears, Bobby Conn, White Mystery, Tim Kinsella, ONO, and the Lonesome Organist.
