Daniella Mason’s “Shade Of You” Makes iTunes List

Daniella Mason Makes iTunes “What’s Hot” List with New Single

“Shade of You” the only self-released track to top the honorable lineup

Two weeks after its release, the dreamy new single from synth-pop powerhouse Daniella Mason is living up to the hype: “Shade of You” has been dubbed the best in new music by iTunes, landing on their front page under the “What’s Hot” section. The vibey, electropop track, situated among singles from alt/indie heavy hitters the likes of Betty Who, Bleachers, and Paloma Faith, is the only self-released song to make the honorable lineup.

“I’m so blown away by the attention ‘Shade of You’ has been receiving,” admitted the Nashville songstress. “It’s so incredible to me that self-released, independent music can still hold its own in such a major label market. We’ve worked so hard to remain ourselves and do things on our own terms, and it’s so nice to see that really paying off.”

iTunes’ recognition of the single continues the string of praise it has earned since its recent release. SpinMedia blog Idolator debuted the track exclusively where it remained the top trending story of the day, garnering over 125 streams per hour. “True talent always rises to the top,” contributor Bradley Stern wrote. “Case in point? Daniella Mason… The smooth, soulful electronic-acoustic stylings brings acts like Ellie Goulding and Jessie Ware to mind, as well as our up-and-coming indie-pop darling, Betty Who… It’s an unassuming, catchy slice of mature pop— one that positions Daniella as one of the newest and most exciting ones to watch this year.”

“Shade of You” was also recently featured as one of the best new tracks on The Guardian’s Pop Playlist. Journalist Michael Cragg praised Mason’s unique artistry on the single, hailing her as as a “serious musician with a distinctly pop edge,” and even likening her to an “American Ellie Goulding.” Cragg also went on to recognize the song’s synth-heavy beats and poignant lyrics by adding, “Mid-paced and featuring some deliciously 80s, Phil Collins-esque drum rolls, new single ‘Shade Of You’ doesn’t exactly jump about, waggling its arms for your attention, but instead drifts along, languishing in its own pain.”

“We’re going to continue making music that we love,” Daniella confesses, “and we’re just so humbled that everyone is enjoying it as much as we do. We can’t wait for everyone to hear the rest of this album.”

Mason’s forthcoming, self-titled record is set to be released this October.
