Daniella Mason Reveals “Shades Of You”
Daniella Mason Debuts Dreamy, Intellipop Track on Idolator
“Shade of You” available on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon July 1st
“True talent always rises to the top. Case in point? Daniella Mason… The smooth, soulful electronic-acoustic stylings brings acts like Ellie Goulding and Jessie Ware to mind, as well as our up-and-coming indie-pop darling, Betty Who… It’s an unassuming, catchy slice of mature pop— one that positions Daniella as one of the newest and most exciting ones to watch this year.” —Idolator
The word is officially out on Nashville synth-pop powerhouse Daniella Mason’s new single, “Shade of You,” and the word is good.
Yesterday, SpinMedia blog Idolator premiered the track to heavy interest where it remained in trend as the most popular story of the day, averaging around 125 plays per hour. The exclusive came a day in advance of the single’s nationwide release (July 1st), allowing fans to preview the soulful, electro-pop tune before purchase.
“We loved the song,” Idolator contributor Bradley Stern admits. “Of course we were very interested in premiering it exclusively. Daniella is definitely one to watch.”
The track features vibey production value with synth-heavy grooves, impressive beats, and the Mason’s signature powerhouse vocals. The young, twenty-something’s pop-centric songwriting sensibilities crowned with an intelligent alt/indie streak (self-dubbed “intellipop”) make it easy to see how she situates herself among fans of Betty Who, Ellie Goulding, and Jessie Ware alike. Daniella’s music seems to ride a fine line between mainstream and tastemaker that even the most savvy of audiophiles can appreciate.
Mason’s year started off with a bang when pop icon Demi Lovato discovered one of her tracks, the hauntingly spatial “All I Want,” and tweeted it out to her 23 million Twitter followers. 19,000 favorites and 15,000 retweets later, Lovato asked Daniella to join her on the Bethlehem, PA stop of her Neon Lights Tour.
“It was truly an unbelievable night,” Mason gushes. “My God, her fans are wonderful! It was the most loving audience I’ve ever experienced. Demi and I overlap a little when it comes to our music, but we’re still very different artists. It was a beautiful thing to see thousands of people being so incredibly receptive of a little three-piece band from Nashville, especially on a tour that’s such a big, fantastic production.”
Now, four months later, Mason now finds herself releasing “Shade of You” to the world in preparation for an upcoming album release (due out this fall) and subsequent tour.
“This song is so close to my heart because it rings true for so many relationships I’ve seen come and go,” Mason confesses. “It’s really just about losing yourself in love… losing yourself within someone else and not being able to maintain your own identity. ‘Shade of You’ is all about the struggle that comes along with that realization. I think a lot of people can relate to that feeling and, to me, that’s always what makes for the best songs: a universal understanding in music.”
