Conor Oberst Unveils Video for “You Are Your Mother’s Child”
Performing on Late Show with David Letterman July 28th and at New York City’s Central Park SummerStage July 29th
Conor Oberst has released the second video from his critically acclaimed new album Upside Down Mountain. The video, for the fan-favorite “You Are Your Mother’s Child,” was filmed on New York’s Fire Island and directed by Greg Marinaccio.
Upside Down Mountain, his debut album for Nonesuch Records, was released in May and has been hailed by critics as a creative triumph for the Bright Eyes frontman.
Conor Oberst – backed by LA band Dawes – is currently touring the globe. He’ll be making a stop in New York City this month for performances on Late Show with David Letterman on July 28th and at Central Park’s SummerStage on July 29th.
Oberst will be back on the road this fall. Los Angeles fans can see him play a very special show with folk legend John Prine at the Greek Theater on October 5th. All dates are below.
Some praise for Upside Down Mountain:
“A sumptuous immersion in Seventies California folk pop, it is the most immediately charming album he has ever made.” – Rolling Stone
“All of Mr. Oberst’s gifts align on Upside Down Mountain: his empathy, his unassumingly natural melodies, the quavery sincerity in his voice, the plain-spoken but telling lyrics that he’s now careful to deliver clearly.” –New York Times
“This new collection shows Oberst has grown significantly as a craftsman, but he’s held onto the elements that made his earlier writings so compelling, the wordy fever dream verses, that perpetually troubled delivery. He calls this record Upside Down Mountain, but it sounds like a career peak.” – NPR
Upside Down Mountain is an album to engage with. The characters and stories that Oberst sketches out have never been so fully realised.” – Q Magazine (UK)
“Upside Down Mountain is a great achievement and Conor Oberst’s best work to date.” – Paste
“Oberst is back to his sincere, melancholy best on his latest album. A trembling, nostalgic rumination on life and love with added hindsight.” – NME (UK)
