Duo Shares First Look of Upcoming Reality Series
The members of South African folk-pop outfit, Connecting Stars, who have soared on Billboard’s Top 30 Adult Contemporary Charts with their hit “Stuck,” are pleased to announce the release of their debut, self-titled album. In celebration of the release, the eclectic husband and wife duo have also premiered the anthemic album opener, “Pieces,” via Elmore Magazine. Martin and Cheryl Engel are also offering the first look on their reality series that incorporates their music into to a documentary-style show that highlights various charitable causes in their local communities.
The twelve bittersweet tracks on Connecting Stars’ debut album take listeners on a musical and lyrical journey spanning the lofty highs and crushing lows of love found, lost or betrayed, as well as the confusion and helplessness when loved ones pass away or suffer needlessly. The album opens with the soaring song “Pieces” that speaks of the broken “pieces” of two people’s lives coming together to form a whole. Intertwined with strains of ukulele, harmonica and mandolin, the album’s most remarkable and lyrically motivating songs draw on both painful and joyful life moments, while the Engel’s musical skill and intuitive interaction make for an unforgettable presentation.
Cheryl Engel comments, “We are excited about the album release because it has been a real labor of love and vulnerability as we have explored many of our painful and joyful life experiences of the past few years through the album creation process.”
Martin and Cheryl Engel wear many hats. Not only are they successful musicians in their own right, they are also parents of two children and run a prosperous independent business in South Africa. However, some of their most meaningful work comes in the form of philanthropy. The Engel’s are involved in many charitable and community-based projects such as Vukhanye, Hillcrest Aids Centre, Hope House and Ithembalethu . Their upcoming reality series takes an in-depth look the successes and challenges of “Transforming Stars,” or those who are doing their part to change the world. The series also incorporates Connecting Stars’ music though its soundtrack, as well as live performances. Cheryl Engel adds, “The reality series is an extension of our music career because it allows us to make a practical difference in other people’s lives rather than just singing about our experiences and issues that are being faced by people around us.”
