Nashville based COIN – Chase Lawrence (lead vocals), Joe Memmel (guitar/backup vocals), Ryan Winnen (drums) and Zach Dyke (bass) – is set to release their self-titled debut album in June 2015 via their recently inked deal with StarTime International. The band recorded the album in Nashville with producer Jay Joyce (Cage the Elephant, Sleeper Agent, Emmylou Harris) who was just nominated for a 2015 Grammy as “Producer of the Year, Non-Classical.” The forthcoming album is guitar driven and sonically mature while still being true to COIN’s synth pop sensibilities.
The four members of COIN were born in the early 90’s and formed the band while attending Belmont University in Nashville, TN. Shortly after COIN garnered love from tastemaker blogs and web sites with Neon Gold posting a song and comparing them to “…Local Natives and Vampire Weekend…,” The Line of Best Fit calling their music “addictive” and Interview premiering a music video and chatting with the band about their 90’s influenced sound. In the fall of 2013 COIN made their way up the East Coast and to the CMJ Festival where KCRW caught them live and dubbed COIN the “Best Nashville Band,” writing, “This indie pop foursome may produce the catchiest sounds of the entire festival.” In 2014 they hit SXSW for the first time and the buzz continued to grow earning them a “Band Crush” feature with NYLON, who described COIN as having, “…a happy-go-lucky vibe that has hints of a twangier Vampire Weekend mashed up with an electro-heavy Phoenix.”
In addition to the growing press buzz, COIN has been ramping up their time on the road and playing live. Just this past fall they joined both Kopecky Family Band and Jukebox the Ghost respectively as main support. They’ve also had the good fortune to play dates with Walk The Moon and Young the Giant and will be heading out at the end of January in the US with Grizfolk for the first part of their Vagabonds tour.
Leading up to the June 2015 release of COIN, StarTime International will release first single “Run” on January 27th and the COIN EP on February 24th that will offer fans “Run” along with two other album tracks – “Fingers Crossed” and “Better.” In addition, the band will be following their short trek with Grizfolk (confirmed dates below) with a stop at this year’s SXSW.
