Cobra Starship Brings Icona Pop To “Never Been In Love”

COBRA STARSHIP RETURNS WITH NEW SINGLE “NEVER BEEN IN LOVE” FEATURING ICONA POP OUT NOW!

Cobra Starship is back! The DCD2 Records/Fueled By Ramen band that brought you Top 5 hits like the multi-platinum tracks “You Make Me Feel” and “Good Girls Go Bad” has returned, teaming up with Wallpaper and John Ryan to release the summer jam “Never Been In Love” featuring Icona Pop.

“Never Been In Love” has a stadium-pop sound reminiscent of an earlier era. “I had been listening to a lot of early 90’s UK artists — Jesus Jones, EMF, George Michael,” explains Saporta, “It was a time when bands first started incorporating break beats and electronic elements into their music. I had been trying to find a way to modernize that sound.” When Wallpaper. had the idea to sample Fatboy Slim’s “Praise You,” Gabe knew they had hit the nail on the head. “I heard that piano break and I knew we had it.”

“‘Never Been In Love’ could give the impression that we wrote a song way too sad to be a Cobra Starship track,” says frontman Gabe Saporta, “But even when you hear the full lyric (‘I know now, I’ve never been in love before’) and realize the song is actually positive, something still seems off: Isn’t this the guy who made ‘Good Girls Go Bad?”

That was actually my hardest challenge when I began writing for our new album: how to reconcile being known as a bad-boy with the reality that I was growing up and getting married. I think this song captures my carefree attitude (that often got me into trouble in the past), but balances it with the realization that I finally found something to care about.”

Cobra Starship has earned massive international success with their previous albums & singles which they performed at the MTV VMAs, People’s Choice Awards, Americas Got Talent, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Conan, Dancing With The Stars, The Tonight Show & more. Although it may sometimes feel like it’s just the beginning for Cobra Starship, their success certainly didn’t happen overnight. They’ve been touring for years; headlining tours while also hitting the road with everyone from 30 Seconds To Mars to Justin Bieber (a testament to Cobra’s wide-ranging musical style), and Fall Out Boy to Maroon5. Cobra Starship is one of the original signees to Pete Wentz’s label, DCD2 Records.
