CLOSURE IN MOSCOW OFFERS
TRACK BY TRACK GUIDE TO PINK LEMONADE
“CIM manage to be both accessible and complex… Inventive, but not at the cost of good songs.” – Rolling Stone Australia
“Like cardio for your attention span, Pink Lemonade is a self-induced brain enema that over-probes your inner canals with pineal-popping prowess”
– Liam Wilson of The Dillinger Escape Plan
Closure In Moscowsinger Christopher de Cinque has offered Alt Press a track by track lyrical guide to the group’s sophomore album, Pink Lemonade. Out now via Sabretusk, Pink Lemonade captures the Australian five-piece’s unique concoction of progressive avant-garde rock and mind-melting melodies in all of its outlandish glory.

Having formed in 2006, Closure In Moscow has created a large following in the international rock circuit with its unconventional approach to music and energetic delivery onstage. Their 2009 debut full-length First Temple received heavy rotation from Australian tastemaker Triple J, and lead to massive tours of Europe and the U.S. This also included sets during SXSW and Vans Warped Tour, as well as tours supporting the likes of Coheed And Cambria, My Chemical Romance, Saosin, Dance Gavin Dance, and many others.
Yet Closure In Moscow expands its eccentric input with its sophomore effort, both musically and lyrically. Co-produced by the band and Tom Larkin (also of New Zealand’sShihad), Pink Lemonade was recorded in various dens of aural inequity around Melbourne. The album was designed to be a voyage that is greater than the sum of its parts. Conceptually, Pink Lemonade is the tale of a hapless fool’s descent down the rabbit hole and through the Chapel Perilous.
Closure In Moscow introduces the story’s central character in the album’s first track, “The Fool.” As de Cinque explains to Alt Press, “The song aurally is deliberately very goofy and jaunty… Basically painting the picture that he is this hapless, cantankerous space cadet, adrift in a sea of disillusion, reduced to nothing but an automaton following its wiring and pleasure seeking like a good little domesticated primate. But, as the dissonant moment suggests, there are these acute stabs of anguish and bewilderment, below the surface there is a gaping chasm of despair, and he wants a quick fix.”
The group recently premiered a new video for Pink Lemonade’s last track with The Big Takeover. The 8bit composition features vocals from Midori Kurihara of Japanese chiptune band YMCK. While the song itself is a stark contrast sound wise, it serves as a testament to Closure In Moscow’s unpredictable and outlandish approach to music.
Closure In Moscow will be touring its home country throughout August and September, with plans to tour globally in support of Pink Lemonade to be announced shortly.
Closure In Moscow is:
Christopher de Cinque (Vocals)
Mansur Zennelli (Guitar, Vocals)
Michael Barrett (Guitar)
Salvatore Aidone (Drums)
Duncan Millar (Bass)
