Charles Chemery Gets Program Chair At Hollywood’s CCM
MUSICIANS INSTITUTE HOLLYWOOD NAMES CHARLES CHEMERY AS NEW PROGRAM CHAIR OF INDEPENDENT ARTIST PROGRAM
Musicians Institute, the College of Contemporary Music in Hollywood, has named world renowned DJ and independent artist Charles Chemery as Program Chair of the school’s Independent Artist Program (IAP). As the Program Chair, Chemery will work alongside the school’s experienced instructors to guide students through the complete creative process—from songwriting, arranging, recording and production to marketing and promotion—over the course of two academic quarters. IAP students develop their skills as singers, DJs, producers, rappers or instrumentalists to produce original songs, develop a business plan to release their music, and build a fan base.
“My goal for the IAP program is to ensure that our students receive the most adequate and appropriate education taught by caring and qualified instructors,” explained Chemery. “Our instructors go above and beyond to challenge students and help them grow both as musicians and
as individuals.”
“Musicians Institute is extremely proud
and honored to have Mr. Chemery join
the Office of Academic Affairs,” said Jonathan Newkirk, Dean of the School of Industry Studies. “Charles brings a wealth of independent artist experience to the table, especially as the former music producer of the AFI Film Festival and his unparalleled DJ’ing experience with world renowned duo, Bleek & Sputnik. His involvement as a music supervisor, talent manager and artist will translate very well to the IAP Chair role.”
“Our award-winning faculty has a proven track record in helping our students realize their goals by providing tailor-made instruction delivered in state-of-the art facilities while building the skills and fostering the relationships that will help them thrive,” Chemery explained. “My aim is to expand our offerings by using the most up-to-date digital software instruction – while also continuing to emphasize great songwriting through detailed lyrical creation, songwriting and production.”
Before joining the MI faculty, Chemery studied Jazz and received his BA at Berklee College of Music in Boston. While earning a dual major in Contemporary Writing & Production and Traditional Composition, he was recognized on the Dean’s List. France was Chemery’s home for two years while he advanced his education in History, Political Science, and Economics at Université Paris XII and IX.
Chemery’s passion for music extends far beyond his tenure at MI. He has succeeded as a Los Angeles-based DJ, vocalist, guitarist, and record producer, performing around the world in cities including L.A., New York, Paris, London, Tokyo, Zurich, Cannes, Miami, Geneva, Helsinki, Rio de Janeiro, Hong Kong, and Casablanca. He has DJ’d the official Hollywood premieres of many movies such as The Artist (2012 Best Picture Academy Award Winner), Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar, Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln and The Adventures of Tintin, Blood Diamonds, and countless others.
