Johnny Winter Best Of Alligator Coming To Vinyl

Johnny Winter (February 23, 1944-July 16, 2014) was an American music legend. Beginning with his first appearance on the pages of Rolling Stone in 1968, Winter epitomized the fiery and flamboyant blues-rock guitar hero. On Saturday, April 18, 2015, Record Store Day, Alligator Records will release the vinyl-only album It’s My Life, Baby – The Best Of The Alligator Records Years. It collects eight classic tracks from Winter’s three heralded Alligator albums, featuring one brilliant, career-defining performance after another. The 180g pressing will also include a download card for the entire record. It will be initially available only at participating Record Store Day locations.

Spoon Brings Take Away Show Through La Blogothèque

La Blogothèque is releasing Spoon’s new Take Away Show today. The performance features exclusive versions of “Inside Out” and the band’s cover of Ann Margret’s “I Just Don’t Understand” featuring Britt Daniel on vocals and guitar accompanied only by Alex Fischel’s piano. Spoon’s Take Away Show was filmed at the beautiful Knockdown Center in Queens, NY—a former glass and door factory that now hosts cultural exhibitions.

Freddie Gibbs Songs Get Pitchfork’d

Freddie Gibbs has shared a surprise three song drop of new songs today which are streaming below and available for purchase via iTunes. “Pronto”, “White Range”, and “Diamonds” all come in the wake of 2014’s critically acclaimed Piñata which was recorded entirely with Madlib and received best of 2014 accolades from many publications including NPR, Pitchfork, Billboard, and Rolling Stone. Additionally, Freddie Gibbs will be performing at select festivals this spring and early summer including Bonaroo and Pitchfork Music Festival where Gibbs will perform with Madlib.

Hop Along’s Painted Shut Coming May 5th

Known for their enigmatic indie-pop meets growling guitar grunge, Philadelphia’s Hop Along return with their sophomore full-length album Painted Shut, slated for release May 5th on Saddle Creek. Following the release of the band’s debut Get Disowned LP, Frances Quinlan has emerged as one of music’s most unique songwriters. Recorded and mixed by John Agnello (Kurt Vile, Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth) in Philadelphia and Brooklyn, Frances is joined by Mark Quinlan (drums), Tyler Long (bass) and Joe Reinhart (guitar) on Painted Shut. Vancouver’s NEEDS are sharing their furiously woozy new single “The Only Good Condo is a Dead Condo,” the second from the band’s upcoming self-titled full length debut, Needs. Due out on May 12th via File Under: Music (Slam Dunk, Dan Mangan, Anchoress), pre-orders are now available with the first 100 copies on limited edition black and white mixed vinyl. VICE premiered the single on Friday, stating the song “will make you want to burn down a suburb” before elaborating “There’s something invigorating about this band that’s difficult to convey without listening to them—it’s a genuineness that most punk bands have abandoned.”
