American Songwriter Premieres
Carsie Blanton’s Not Old, Not New
Out June 24

National US Tour Underway
On June 24th, the sassy, sophisicated New Orleans-based singer-songwriter Carise Blanton will release her new album Not Old, Not New. The album is a collection of classic American songs from the pre-bebop era that Blanton calls “some of the best songs ever written.”
Not Old, Not New recalls a time in American pop music history when jazz was at the forefront. Blanton explains that “There was a time when jazz music wasn’t just for geeks and old people. I’m making this record because jazz is for everybody.”
Today, American Songwriter debuted the full album on their website which you can listen to HERE.
Not Old, Not New was recorded in Carsie’s adopted hometown of New Orleans, produced by Grammy-winner John Porter (B.B. KingTaj Mahal), and features esteemed New Orleans players like Ellis MarsalisDavid Torkanowsky (Irma Thomas), and Neal Caine (Harry Connick Jr.).
PopMatters debuted the album’s first single, Blanton’s version of Cole Porter’s“Laziest Gal In Town,” and said “Carsie Blanton’s sexy, enigmatic vocals are ideally suited to the American popular songbook… She treats each note like another flirtatious look towards the object of her affection as the lazy notes flutter down gently and easy.”
Blanton was recently featured in a Q&A with Classicalite who called her a “young lioness… that channels some of the greatest female singers, be they elder stateswomen such as Billie Holiday and Nina Simone or contemporaries like Norah Jones.”
USA Today featured her version of the 1935 song “You’re A Heavenly Thing” and saidNot Old, Not New could “double as Jazz 101.” Writing in AXS.com, Carol Banks Weber said “Not Old, Not New doesn’t sound ancient at all, because Blanton doesn’t treat them as museum pieces. She gets down into the melodic meat of the songs.”
