Cage The Elephant released a haunting and beautiful video today for “Cigarette Daydreams,” one of the most beloved songs on their new album, Melophobia. Acclaimed director Mark Pellington worked closely with Matt Shultz on the project, and together they created a moving portrait of the song’s true meaning featuring a very special guest. Mark Pellington is best known for his work with the likes of Pearl Jam, Nine Inch Nails, U2 and acclaimed films, including Arlington Road and The Mothman Prophecies.

Mark Pellington said: “A murder mystery? A love story? Real life madness? “Cigarette Daydreams” is an ambitious music video/short film inspired by real events and fictional images. It is a fractured, hallucinatory love story hatched by myself and lyricist singer Matt Shultz. A tale of madness and mystery, the dark but melancholy story follows a young woman (Juliette Buchs, the real Ames Shultz) coming to terms with her past and her future.

Perhaps a search for a love by a woman trying to outrun her past? Ambiguity abounds as the film is a psychologically-fragmented story of yearning, memory, and desire. It counterpoints images of innocence and danger and revolves around a tour de force performance by the Parisian trained actress Juliette Buchs.”

The video was first tweeted out by Patrick Carney of The Black Keys this morning, and currently can be seen on YouTube, CageTheElephant.com and on TheBlackKeys.com. Earlier this week, the band released four exclusive teasers to the Instagram accounts of Nylon and NylonGuys, Consequence of Sound, and Pure Volume.

Starting tomorrow, September 5th, the band will embark on a nationwide arena tour country with The Black Keys. See full routing below and PRESS HERE for more information.

Additionally, Cage the Elephant, arguably one of the best live bands around today, have now captured their blistering live show in the form of their upcoming release- The Live EP. The 5-track collection was recorded at the band’s concert at The Ogden Theater in Denver, CO on May 17th. It will be released digitally on October 7th 2014 via RCA Records.

Praise for Cage the Elephant’s Live Performances:

“With Skrillex on guitar and Cage the Elephant’s Matt Shultz on vocals? You’d have to see it live at Bonnaroo, or not see it at all.” – The Hollywood Reporter (Top 10 Best Performances) (Bonnaroo)

“Matt Shultz owned the stage like the love child of Mick Jagger and Iggy Pop, dancing spastically and shirtless while the band tore through an exuberantly punky and danceable set — “Spiderhead,” “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked” and “Cigarette Daydreams” included — that had the crowd giddily jerking back and forth to the beat.” – Billboard (Top 10 Best Performances) (Firefly)

“5 cool things that happened at Bonnaroo on Saturday” – USA Today(Bonnaroo)

“For this 13th annual peacenik gathering, Cage the Elephant and Elton John seemed to garner the biggest reaction across the five stages.” – CMJ (Bonnaroo)

“Shultz came out swinging, playing around with the crowd and watching those who dared to step into the mud get a little dirty…a great musical performance” – Chicago Sun-Times (Lollapalooza)

“But if any day took the cake, it was Saturday. Cage the Elephant, this year’s most anticipated performance at Bonnaroo, had Firefly fans equally eager with a crowd stretching far off into the field. For one, no other performance had as many crowd surfers flying through the air—and so constant, too. For an hour, those security guards were given a run for their money.” – Elmore Magazine (Firefly)

“Oddly, the more raggedy the arrangement, the more effective Cage the Elephant becomes. All the more reason for Shultz to crawl on all fours and finish face-down, splayed out onstage.” –Chicago Tribune (Lollapalooza)
