Buck 65 Plays SXSW With Astronautalis
Buck 65 Announces New US Tour Dates Including SXSW With Special Guest Astronautalis Rich Terfry is Buck 65, one of the most beloved rappers in his native Canada. On September 30 of last year he released his newest album Neverlove via Warner Music Canada. Describing the effort as a “divorce record, plain and simple,” he was able to find catharsis and relief from his personal struggles through the music. “Making this record is how I got through a terrible time in my life.” Following up the album with a worldwide tour, Buck 65 is now coming to the United States. Beginning with a stint at SXSW, Buck will be touring across the country this spring with special guest Astronautalis. Known round the world for his live shows, Buck 65 is sure to deliver a memorable experience to all who attend. His performances are centered on his eccentric showmanship, out of this world dancing, and unexpected song selection. He regularly incorporates new and unreleased material as well as re-worked favorites into his set lists. Be sure to check out a full rundown of tour dates below. The two-time Juno Award winner began rapping at 13 and in 1990 he shared his music publicly for the first time. Buck 65 then went on to release his first album while he was still in university on Sloan’s label Murderecords and has since released more than 20 full-lengths, EPs, and singles. His first release kicked off a career that has seen him tour the world and collaborate with everyone from Sufjan Stevens to Feist to Sage Francis. Sounding unlike any of his past albums, Neverlove is inspired by a dark time in his life, but contains some of the most lighthearted, “Super Pretty Naughty,” and catchy, “Heart of Stone,” songs in his catalog. Featuring production from Marten Tromm, Dean Nelson, Alias, DJ Mayonnaise, and Sunclef amongst others, the record also boasts drums from Broken Social Scene’s Justin Peroff. While Buck 65’s music started out as hip-hop, it has evolved into something else over the course of the last twenty years. Expect an eclectic mix of hip hop, pop, folk, country, and rock; all infused with his signature vocal style.
