2015 VANS WARPED TOUR
Brian Marquis has partnered with The Boston Globe for the premiere of his new music video for “From Boston”, directed by Jorge Suarez. The video was filmed on the streets of Boston, featuring nearly every notable local landmark, and shows Boston through Marquis‘ eyes.
The video for “From Boston” is available now at BostonGlobe.com.
“I’ve always wanted to write a song about Boston, the city I love and grew up in as a musician and a young adult,” shares Marquis. “I went to college there and stayed there up until a few years ago and in that time I did a lot of traveling and touring around the country and world. One thing I noticed when we’d be away from home is that a lot of people have strong ideas about what Bostonians are like. People would hear that we were from Boston and repeat it back to us in their version of a Boston accent “Oh, you’re from BAWWSTON?” They couldn’t help themselves. And it seemed that years of movies like The Departed, Boondock Saints, The Fighter, etc., had created an almost cartoon like image of a Bostonian to the rest of the world. I thought it was worth poking fun at some of the colorful stereotypes and also celebrating those regional differences, as that’s what makes Boston such a special place worthy of such imitations and preconceived notions far and wide. It’s a fun drinking song with a lot of New England sarcasm that I know only a small region of people will fully understand but that’s who the song is for.”
Marquis has also just announced new tour dates supporting The Dear Hunter and Northern Faces, which will bring him to Cambridge, MA on May 5 and 6, and New York City on May 7 and 8.
This Summer, Marquis will perform daily and run production on the Acoustic Basement Stage on the 2015 Vans Warped Tour for the fourth consecutive year – a stage that he founded in 2011 under the guidance of Vans Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman.
The semi-indoor tented stage features a wide variety of established acts performing acoustic sets, offering a break from the signature full-band stages of the massive annual touring festival. Artists who have performed on the stage include the likes of Chuck Ragan (Hot Water Music/The Revival Tour), Into It. Over It., Transit, Anti-Flag, and many more.
”From Boston” comes from Marquis’ latest album – Blood & Spirits, where his deep, earthy vocals shine while offering introspective, poetic lyricism, undeniably catchy melodies and a dynamic collection of songs that range stylistically from bright, memorable sing-alongs (“Paralysis by Analysis”) filled to the brim with Boston pride (“From Boston”) to dark, emotional tales crooned out with just the right amount of Americana twang (“Hem & Haw”, “I’m Still Chasing You”) and full-hearted genuineness (“Drink You Up”). One can simply feel the raw, honest truth and passion behind each and every word Marquis pours out on Blood & Spirits.
The album was recorded in Los Angeles, CA with producer Doug Grean (Tim McGraw, Sheryl Crow, Stone Temple Pilots).
