Ben Harper Backs New Light India September 19th

BEN HARPER TO PERFORM BENEFIT SHOW FOR NEW LIGHT INDIA

ACOUSTIC CONCERT SUPPORTS NONPROFIT’S MISSION TO BUILD BOYS HOMES IN INDIA

Internationally renowned recording artist Ben Harper will headline a Sept. 19 fundraiser for the nonprofit New Light India at the New York Society for Ethical Culture. “An Acoustic Evening with Ben Harper” benefits the organization’s community development of the “Boys Home Project” based in Kalighat, India. The Force Film Foundation is producing the event through partnership with the nonprofit, Lend Your Hands.

Founded in 2000 by Urmi Basu, New Light India provides shelter, educational opportunities, recreational facilities, healthcare and legal aid for the girls and women in Kalighat, notorious for its red light district.

Said Harper, “New Light has been doing incredible work for years protecting and educating young girls that are vulnerable to sexual exploitation. They have recently expanded their mission to serve young boys who are also at risk of perpetuating this terrible epidemic or becoming victims themselves.”

A musician, songwriter, guitarist, producer and activist, Ben Harper has released 12 studio albums and three live albums since 1994. Last year’s Get Up! debuted at #1 on the Billboard Blues chart and spent 24 weeks in the Top 10. It won a Best Blues Album Grammy for Harper and harmonica master Charles Musselwhite, with whom Harper has been touring this summer. For his latest album, Childhood Home, released Mother’s Day 2014, Harper teamed up with his mom Ellen Harper to record favorite songs from childhood. Harper’s albums, combined with an unceasing commitment to international touring, have helped him grow a fan base that spans several continents.
