Basia Bulat’s Tall Tall Shadow Gets On Polaris Prize Short List
BASIA BULAT’S TALL TALL SHADOW NAMED TO POLARIS PRIZE SHORT LIST
Basia Bulat has been named to the short list for Canada’s prestigious Polaris Prize for her third studio album Tall Tall Shadow. Her second time on the short list, Bulat was previously honored for 2008’s Oh, My Darling.
Bulat’s inclusion on the short list makes Tall Tall Shadow officially one of the ten best Canadian records of the year. The album, which received widespread critical praise in the U.S., was also named Huffington Post Canada’s Album of the Year and was nominated for a 2014 Juno Award.
Currently playing select concert and festival dates in Canada and Europe, including a recent stop at Toronto’s iconic Massey Hall, Bulat will play dates in the U.S. this fall with Bahamas. Please see below for full tour routing.
Critical praise for Tall Tall Shadow:
“A pleasing, conflicted songwriter with a dash of twee charm. ‘Tall Tall Shadow’…confronts tides of loss and alienation with quiet resilience.”—The New York Times
“Bulat has a singular voice, with a confident yet vulnerable tone, and she sings with an impassioned yearning that suggests the vast wilderness of her homeland…Tall Tall Shadow shows her maturing as a songwriter.”—The New Yorker
“The Canadian troubadour combines a shivery grace with a haunting intensity.”—USA Today
“Basia Bulat is a chanteuse from Canada with a haunting voice, adept at telling tales to warm the winter night…Bulat presents folk music with a sexy twist”—Metro
“Her crystalline voice cuts straight through to your soul.”—Baeble
“The Canadian folk singer has the ability to captivate an audience.”—Utne Reader
“On this, her third album to date, the Canadian chanteuse offers up a series of deceptively delicate entreaties that quickly give way to the sort of emphatic rhythms and boisterous melodies that reflect an unmistakably bold confidence.”—Blurt
