SECOND SEASON OF ITS SMASH HIT SIDE EFFECTS

LOS ANGELES, May 13, 2014 – AwesomenessTV today announced the launch of its first mobile app for iOS. The AwesomenessTV appwill provide new ways for fans to engage with their favorite shows and channels. Fans of the hit musical drama Side Effects will be able to binge view the entire second season, debuting today exclusively via the app. Alternatively, new episodes will be released weekly on Thursdays beginning with the first of four episodes on May 15 at: www.youtube.com/
Inspired by the phenomenon of millions of people covering songs on YouTube, Side Effects is told from the perspective of 16-year-old Whitney Connolly, who is prescribed a medication that comes with an interesting side effect – musical hallucinations — as she struggles with the death of her mother and the disappearance of her father. The soundtrack is distributed by Universal Music Group and will be available digitally. Side Effects, co-produced by AwesomenessTV and Universal Cable Productions (UCP), generated over two million views its first week when it originally debuted October 2013 as a long form special, the equivalent of #2 in the teen demo for television ratings that same week.
Chester See (ChesterSee), Meg DeLacy, Lulu Antariksa, Cade Canon Ball, Finn Roberts, Keli Price, Lia Marie Johnson (LiaMarieJohnson) return for season two along with YouTube stars Grace Helbig (ItsGrace) and GloZell (GloZell1), as well as TV talent Gracie Dzienny (“Supah Ninjas”) and Mikey Roe (“Feed the Beast,” “Foodiculous”). Featured music includes Top 40 pop covers of Anna Kendrick’s “Cups,” Capital Cities’ “Safe and Sound,” and One Direction’s mega hit “Kiss You,” as well as a new original song titled “Boom Boom.” For the second season the Connelly kids take to the open road to follow photographic clues to find out what has happened to their dad.
“Our audience wants to consume their content whenever and wherever they like, so we are excited to provide new ways for them to engage with AwesomenessTV talent, series and channels through our new mobile app,” said Brian Robbins, Founder and CEO AwesomenessTV. “As we discovered with Side Effects, AwesomenessTV fans will watch both long and short form content so this gives them the best of both worlds, long form on the app and short form on our YouTube channel.”
“Side Effects gave us the opportunity to explore long format viewing on YouTube as a distribution channel in great collaboration with Awesomeness TV and the audience truly responded,” said Dawn Olmstead, Executive Vice President, Development, Universal Cable Productions. “The success of Side Effects speaks to the quality of the material and what a strong story can deliver. We’re excited to launch the second season and to continue exploring other ways to develop the concept even further.”
Side Effects executive producers are Brian Robbins, Joe Davola, Shauna Phelan, star Chester See, and Allison Schroeder (Mean Girls 2 and90210), who also wrote Side Effects. Side Effects is directed by Grammy® nominee Matt Stawski (Cee Lo Green’s “Forget You”).
UCP will also distribute the drama through various windows and platforms, including international territories, digital download and VOD.
