Beale Street Saturday Night Coming
When Memphis’ Beale Street — a hub of music and activity since the 1860s —was being plowed under for “urban renewal” in 1976, James Luther (Jim) Dickinson — who had played with the Stones, Ry Cooder, and the Flamin’ Groovies (later with Bob Dylan and the Cramps among others), as well as produced Big Star, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, and Alex Chilton (also, The Replacements, Green On Red, and Mudhoney) — decided to not only celebrate the legacy of great Memphis music, but make the mythic street back into the place where both the blues and rock ’n’ roll originated.

Royal Blood Gets Brit Award
Fresh off winning two NME Awards last week for ‘Best Live Band’ and ‘Best New Band’, UK duo Royal Blood have won ‘Best British Group’ at the BRIT Awards, which took place this past Wednesday in London. The band beat out nominees Alt-J, Clean Bandit, Coldplay, and One Direction and was presented the award by Jimmy Page.

Wilson Goes To Razor & Tie
Razor & Tie announces the addition of the Detroit rockers Wilson to its worldwide label roster. The band recently completed work on their new album with producer Johnny Andrews (Halestorm, All That Remains, Three Days Grace) in Atlanta, GA. Jobriath A.D. Coming
Factory 25 announces the release of director Kieran Turner’s music documentary Jobriath A.D. about seventies glam rock musician Jobriath, also known as “The American Bowie,” “The True Fairy of Rock & Roll,” and “Hype of the Year.” The film, on DVD, will be packaged with an LP of unreleased music from Jobriath’s lost musical, “Popstar.”
