Lust For Youth’s Illume Gets Sand Circles Remix

Ahead of their upcoming North American tour, Lust For Youth shares the brand new video for “Illume” with us today. Though it is not the same “Illume” we know from the International LP. Sand Circles re-worked this track for the Remixes cassette that came along with the limited edition version of the International LP. Sand Circles took a very minimal approach to the remix, almost turning what some would call a “dance floor” track into a very ambient and emotional piece.

Motorama To Bring Poverty

Russia’’s Motorama will release their third album, Poverty on March 10 via eccentric French label Talitres. “Uncannily, for a band from a southern port near the Ukraine border, Motorama resemble a bunch of New Yorkers emulating the sound of ’80s Manchester,” says the BBC. “It would be preposterous if the result didn’’t sound so sublime.”

6 String Drag To Bring High Hat

After 16 years in hibernation, 6 String Drag is back to remind us a few things about real rock ‘n’ roll. In the late ‘90s, the Carolina quartet stood out as pioneers of the nascent alt-country movement. The band’s Steve Earle-produced LP, High Hat, remains an undisputed classic of its era. Now battle-scarred and road-wizened, today’s 6 String Drag is the sound of four kindred souls reunited, letting their individual histories in the years between mingle freely around their shared love of classic sounds. Their exhilarating new recording, Roots Rock ‘N’ Roll—out February 10 on Royal Potato Family—welds Kenny Roby and Rob Keller’s trademark harmonies to surging rhythms. Cut mostly live to tape, the effort is equal parts slap-back swagger and openhearted honesty—a triumphant return that celebrates rock’s first golden age by virtue of the grace, wit and insight found in Roby’s songwriting and 6 String Drag’s inspired performances.

Ray Wylie Hubbard Brings The Ruffian’s Misfortune

When it comes to down ’n’ dirty roots ’n’ roll, nobody in the wide world of Americana music today does it better than Ray Wylie Hubbard. Except, it seems, for Hubbard himself. After riding a decade-long career resurgence into the national spotlight with 2012’s acclaimed The Grifter’s Hymnal and his first ever appearance on the Late Show With David Letterman (“I didn’t want to peak too soon,” quips Hubbard, 68), the iconoclastic Texas songwriter is back to continue his hot streak with The Ruffian’s Misfortune — his 16th album (and third on his own Bordello Records, via Thirty Tigers) — due out April 7, 2015.
