Adrien Reju Brings Hemophiliac Of Love

ADRIEN REJU’S “HEMOPHILIAC OF LOVE” FEATURING A.C. NEWMAN

Woodstock, NY, based singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Adrien Reju’s “Hemophiliac of Love” featuring vocals by New Pornographer A.C. Newman is available now at iTunes. The song, the first single from her soon-to-be-released EP, Strange Love, is a cover of an obscure gem written by the late 80s/early 90s psychedelic rock poets King Missile. “Hemophiliac of Love” has been welcomed with some great early excitement at radio, already receiving significant airplay at WXPN (Philadelphia, KXT (Dallas), WDST (Woodstock), WCBE (Columbus) and KNBA (Anchorage).

The concept to record “Hemophiliac of Love” came from a performance Reju gave in Philadelphia on Valentine’s Day’s 2014. The theme of the show was “unconventional love songs,” tunes that explored the dark, whimsical and sometimes twisted sides of romance. The idea to play this particular track came from Newman, whom Reju met in Woodstock several years ago. Reju sang and played percussion in Newman’s solo band when he opened for Neko Case at Radio City Music Hall in the fall of 2013.

Upon hearing Reju’s version of his “Hemophiliac of Love,” songwriter Stephen Tunney (aka Dogbowl) said, he was “deeply moved.”

To produce the Strange Love EP, Reju tapped The Elegant Too, whose eclectic collaborations include Yoko Ono, P. Diddy and John Cale. She was drawn to their love of mixing live and synthetic sounds, and Reju describes the overall essence of it as “a sensual landscape dusted with magical elements.”

Raised in New York City as the only daughter of a cellist/composer and music teacher/ book editor, Reju was exposed to a range of musical genres from an early age from classical to jazz (her father’s repertoire), and from folk to classic rock (her mother’s record collection). She credits her parents and their musical and literary upbringing as major contributors to her musicality and integrity as a writer and performer.

To date, Reju has toured the U.S. and Canada, appearing as an opener and band member/ backup singer with artists including: Rachael Yamagata, A.C. Newman, Neko Case, Amos Lee, Gillian Welch, Linda Rondstadt and David Bromberg.
