Classic Rock Roll Of Honour Nominees Announced

THE CLASSIC ROCK ROLL OF HONOUR 2014
– ROCK’S MOST PRESTIGIOUS NIGHT –
ANNOUNCES VIA USA TODAY

ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE AND ICON
GREGG ALLMAN TO RECEIVE THE LIVING LEGEND AWARD

ONE OF MUSIC’S MOST RESPECTED AND HIGHLY ANTICIPATED EVENTS
IS BEING HELD IN THE USA FOR THE FIRST TIME,
ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 4
AT AVALON IN HOLLYWOOD, CA

Hosted by UK-based Classic Rock magazine, the 10th annual Classic Rock Awards – the Classic Rock Roll Of Honour – today (Sept 18) announced via USA TODAY that Gregg Allman, one of rock’s most acclaimed and beloved icons, will be this year’s recipient of the Living Legend award. Previous winners of the Living Legend Award include: Jeff Beck, Alice Cooper, Jimmy Page, Lemmy Kilmister, Ozzy Osbourne, Iggy Pop and ZZ Top.

As one of the most prestigious awards in rock, the Living Legend Award honours those without whom rock music would not be what it is today; the innovators, the trailblazers, those who have inspired others to create music and have trodden the path for them to do so. Gregg Allman is all these things and more.

Gregg Allman is someone whose distinctively soulful voice and singular songwriting ability has resonated through a musical career that spans nearly half a century. He has long been a gifted natural interpreter of the blues, and his voice is one of the defining sounds in the history of American music. Along with the Allman Brothers Band, in which he was a founding member, he was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 1995, and in 2012 the group was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 54th Annual GRAMMYs. In 2011 he released the universally acclaimed Low Country Blues, his first solo album in 14 years, which gave him his highest U.S. chart position ever when it debuted at Number 5 on Billboard’s Top 200 and Number 1 on the Top Blues Albums chart. Allman’s 2012 tell-all memoir, My Cross To Bear, was a New York Times Bestseller.

Gregg Allman: “I am so very honored to be receiving this award from Classic Rock. The magazine is one of my favourites and they are always so generous to me and the Brothers.”

Classic Rock editor Siân Llewellyn says: “Where can you start with Gregg Allman? The rock’n’roll world would be a very different (and far lesser) place without him. As a founding member and guiding light of the Allman Brothers Band and a hugely influential solo artist, Gregg has touched the lives of rock fans all over the globe for over four decades. I’m thrilled that we can call him Classic Rock Magazine’s Living Legend 2014.”

The prestigious Living Legend Award will be presented to Gregg Allman at the Classic Rock Roll Of Honour ceremony on Tuesday, November 4 at the Avalon in Hollywood. This is the 10th anniversary of the awards and the first time they have been hosted outside London.

As previously announced, multi-platinum Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductee Sammy Hagar will serve as this year’s host, and voting is now open for the listener and fan-voted categories (list of nominees and link to vote below). For one night only, Classic Rock magazine plays host to some of the world’s most renowned rock legends. This exclusive evening welcomes some 400 artists, industry figureheads and VIPs with a champagne reception and a three-course dinner, followed by the presentation of the awards themselves. The evening culminates with a live performance.

Reflecting the explosive growth of the Classic Rock brand, the event has grown from humble beginnings to become one of the rare ‘must-dos’ on the rock calendar. It has consistently attracted A-List guests, including Black Sabbath, Jimmy Page, Alice Cooper, Slash, Rush, ZZ Top, Jeff Beck, Brian May, The Who, Gene Simmons, Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Rob Halford and Paul Stanley, among many others, as well as live performances from Jeff Beck with special guests, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rival Sons and Zakk Wylde.

This really is the ultimate in rock‘n’roll awards, and as such will be broadcast in the US on radio exclusively through KMG Networks, a division of Krantz Media Group, it’s national programming partner VH1 Radio, producer of On Tap with Nik Carter, Vh1 Classic Rock Prep and Vh1 Rock Prep, and KMG’s advertising sales partner Adlarge Media. In the UK it will be broadcast on TeamRock Radio.

Orange Amplification returns for a fifth year as a major partner in presenting the Classic Rock Roll Of Honour. Joining them are new sponsors MixRadio, official hotel partners the Sunset Marquis Hotel • Restaurant • Spa, Universal Music Group and Sammy’s Beach Bar Rum.
