Tennis Drops “Easter Island”
TENNIS’ “EASTER ISLAND” PREMIERES ON T: THE NEW YORK TIMES STYLE MAGAZINE
PERFORMS ON KCRW’S “MORNING BECOMES ECLECTIC”
SPRING TOUR STARTS APRIL 25
RITUAL IN REPEAT OUT NOW ON COMMUNION RECORDS
“Easter Island,” a new track from Tennis, premieres on T: The New York Times Style Magazine. Listen to the track via the New York Times HERE and Soundcloud HERE. “Its dreamy track the two wrote in San Diego that relies on a throwback beat and on Moore’s eloquent lyrics, which were largely inspired by Riley’s passion for sailing,” says T: The New York Times Style Magazine. “All of the places I reference in the song are places Patrick would like to sail to,” explains vocalist Alaina Moore. “Whenever I write a song about something else it takes me months, but when I write about sailing, it practically writes itself.” After performing on “The Music of David Lynch” event at the Ace Theater in L.A., the band performed in-studio on KCRW’s “Morning Becomes Eclectic” on April 2. Listen to the full session HERE. Tennis begins their full U.S. headlining tour in their hometown of Denver on April 25.
For the album, the band worked in three separate cities with three well-known producers. They returned to Nashville to work with Pat Carney (The Black Keys) on five of the album’s tracks including “Never Work For Free,” and also with Jim Eno (Spoon) in his Austin Studio on “Bad Girls.” Lastly, they worked with Richard Swift (The Shins) in Portland, who collaborated with the band on four songs including “Timothy.”
Tennis is Denver couple Alaina Moore and Patrick Riley. The duo began writing music together as a way to document the history of their time living aboard a sailboat. The result was their first release, Cape Dory. Moore and Riley followed Cape Dory with Young and Old, which The New Yorker described as “winsome as it is ebullient,” and debuted #1 on Billboard’s Heatseeker Chart and #1 on CMJ Top 200, where it remained for three straight weeks. The album also debuted on Soundscan’s “New Artist Chart” at #1 remaining there for nine consecutive weeks. The band performed on “The Late Show with David Letterman,” “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “Conan” and “Last Call with Carson Daly.”
