“Yes, the lead singer of new wave band Ultravox (and co-conspirator of Band Aid and Live Aid) released an album in 2014 that sounded fresh and relevant to the current musical landscape. And it’s no wonder: Ure practically invented the electronic indie genre when he wrote brooding, sweeping songs such as “Dancing with Tears in My Eyes” and “Vienna.” Fragile is introspective and moody but never manipulative or retro.”
Huffington Post
“A true unsung hero.”
Boston Globe
“Ure combines elegant melodies, eloquent lyrics and pure, exceptionally expressive vocals, all enhanced by lush and imaginative production.”

Grammy and Brit Award winning musician Midge Ure kicks off his North American solo acoustic tour this week. The ‘Fragile Troubadour’ run starts in Portland, Oregon on January 8th, and runs down the west coast before heading to Texas and ultimately east where Midge will play Florida up to Boston through February and March. A few new dates have just been added including Milwaukee and Bethesda. The gigs are in support of Midge’s first new album in over a decade entitled Fragile, released earlier this year via eOne Music. The album contains ten tracks that take from the various influences spanning Midge’s vast career from his accomplished guitar work (Rich Kids, Thin Lizzy) to the synth sounds and technology he has utilized since the late 70’s to today (Visage, Ultravox.) Fragile was recorded almost in its entirety in Midge’s studio in Bath, England with Midge at the helm, playing, arranging, producing and engineering, a true ‘solo album.’
Midge spent a good portion of this past summer in the states on The Retro Futura Tour playing a setlist of select hits spanning his solo career as well as tracks from the Ultravox catalogue. The tour in early 2015 will be the first time he plays songs from Fragile in the US. Fans can expect to hear some of the other hits as well.
“If ‘Fragile’ is a true solo album in the sense that I have made it unaided then the ‘Fragile Troubadour’ tour follows in it’s footsteps. I have chosen to undertake this tour totally alone with no crew or tour manager. It’s a challenge, not forced upon me, but one I have given myself to cross North America with a guitar and a wealth of songs in true troubadour style performing not only songs from the new album but classic Ultravox, Visage and past solo works in this intimate fashion.” Midge Ure
In addition to his most recent album, Midge also served as co-executive producer on Band Aid 30 which debuted last month in the UK, on X Factor.
Midge recently talked to Rolling Stone about the experience of putting the project together along with Sir Bob Geldof. Within minutes of the track’s launch, it raised over 1 million pounds to help fight the ebola crisis in West Africa and has raised thousands more since.
