Kawehi’s Evolution Coming

KAWEHI TO RELEASE HER EVOLUTION EP IN MARCH

ADDITIONAL TOUR DATES ANNOUNCED

The One-Woman Band Will Headline Bowery Ballroom on January 11

Scheduled to Perform at Bottlerock in May

Kawehi is ready to take 2015 by storm. The Lawrence, KS based singer has announced another round of tour dates that will take her across the States and keep her on the road through the end of March. Kicking off in Boston on January 9, the tour will take her down to New York on January 11 where she is scheduled to headline the Bowery Ballroom. She then heads further south hitting Philadelphia, Washington DC, Nashville, Raleigh, Charlotte and more before she heads west. Kawehi will play the Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles on February 20 and will stay on the west coast through early March hitting San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, Vancouver and more. She makes her way back home in March, but not before playing a handful of showcases at SxSW in Austin. She won’t be home for long considering she’s already confirming summer festivals including the just announced Bottlerock Music Festival this May.

After an incredible summer that included the release of her critically acclaimed Robot Heart EP and national tour, including a bunch of festivals and sold-out dates, Kawehi took the fall by storm playing shows overseas in Guam, Singapore and Malaysia before returning to the States for a month-long east coast tour. She also launched a Kickstarter campaign for her new EP, Evolution. The campaign was funded in one day and by its’ last day, she had reached more than 10x her original goal. With plans to release in March, Evolution will pick up where Robot Heart left off. Kawehi will finish the story for her fans – Will the Robot become human? Does she like what she’s become? How does she feel about her fellow man? Stay tuned for the answers.

Kawehi announced the July release of Robot Heart by partnering up with The Music Ninja to premiere the first single, “Anthem.” Shortly after, fans were given a taste of the entire release before it hit stores when Maxim Magazine streamed the entire EP on their site. Recorded in her home studio, everything you hear on Robot Heart was written and created by Kawehi. Each of her releases focuses on a particular idea or sound. With Robot Heart, Kawehi wanted to make music from a robot’s perspective – a female robot, to be exact, who wants to partake in all of the joy and disappointment that comes with being a human. In an interview with Philthy Mag, she explained her creative process: “Every EP’s always completely different. Like, I’ll do an all pop EP, and then an all beat-box EP, and then an EP of all songs written on toys, so they never sound like anything I’ve already put out.” When asked about Robot Heart she admitted creating this new identity added another layer, saying, “A lot of my cathartic release is through writing and writing about my own experience, so it was cool for this one to write from a different perspective and things I’m influenced by. Like, sci-fi is a big one.”

Kawehi has made quite the impression on the music world since releasing the video for her cover of Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box.” The video has been picked up worldwide since becoming a “Staff Pick” on Vimeo. Coverage of the song began popping up everywhere – People Magazine, Spin, Huffington Post, Elle, Esquire, AdWeek, Gizmodo, Buzzfeed, landing on the home page of Reddit and more. Her cover of Michael Jackson’s “The Way You Make Me Feel” has nearly 3 million views and earlier this summer, it caught the attention of Diddy who not only posted it to his facebook page, but included the header “She’s dope!” Her video for “Anthem” also became a staff pick on Vimeo and was declared “one of the best music videos of the summer” by Slate. This isn’t the first – or last – time the singer has made a splash. She was also featured on Music Connection‘s list of Hot 100 Unsigned Artists & Bands in 2011, was a Selected Artist on Fuse TV, and CBS News included her in their line up of Most Viral Videos.
