JENN GRANT’S COMPOSTELA SET FOR U.S. RELEASE MAY 19
2015 JUNO NOMINATIONS: ADULT ALTERNATIVE ALBUM OF THE YEAR & SONGWRITER OF THE YEAR
Award-winning Canadian artist Jenn Grant’s forthcoming studio album, Compostela, is set for independent release on JGM in the U.S. on May 19. The album made Grant a two-time 2015 Juno award nominee in the categories of Adult Alternative Album of the Year and Songwriter of the Year. It was included in the CBC’s “30 Best Canadian albums of 2014” and the lead single, “No One’s Gonna Love You (Quite Like I Do),” spent six weeks on the CBC 2 Top 20 chart. After release in Australia, Compostela’s lead single “Bombshell” was one of ABC’s best 100 songs of 2014. See below for the full track listing.
For the album, Grant wrote every day for a month in a camper trailer near Lake Echo, Nova Scotia, close to her home with husband and producer Daniel Ledwell. Inspired by some of her mother’s last words—“I will meet you in Spain”—Grant titled the album Compostela, which translates to “field of stars” or “star field” and comes from the legend that the dust of the pilgrims who walk the El Camino make up the stars that form the Milky Way.
The album features collaborations with notable artist friends including Ron Sexsmith, Rose Cousins, Sarah Harmer, Doug Paisley, Buck 65, Don Kerr, Kim Harris, Stewart Legere, Justin Rutledge, Rachel Sermanni and the Toronto composer for the film Away From Her, Jonathan Goldsmith. On getting to share the studio with such a wide variety of collaborators Grant says, “Music is the great connector. To be able to create and share music it is one of life’s greatest gifts. Having these artists and friends on the album makes it like a time capsule.”
Hailing from Prince Edward Island in Canada’s Maritimes, Grant began writing in her teens but did not begin performing on stage until completing a degree in Fine Arts at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Grant has several Canadian releases under her belt which have each garnered national critical acclaim including the ECMA’s 2014 Song of The Year for “I’ve Got Your Fire” and the 2013 Pop Recording of The Year for The Beautiful Wild. Grant has received nominations from both the Juno Awards and The Polaris Long List. She is a longtime collaborator with the Canadian alternative hip-hop artist Buck 65 and appeared on his 2011 release 20 Odd Years as a co-songwriter and singer. Compostela is Grant’s fifth studio release and her first album to be toured extensively on an international level.
