Continue readingConsequence of Sound has premiered “Running” the new single from The Lonely Wild. “Running” is a, “a heavy-hearted cross-examination of life’s failures, but ends on a hopeful message of “don’t stop running.” says Consequence of Sound. The track is the first glimpse listeners get of Chasing White Light, The Lonely Wild’s self-proclaimed “death album.” The song unfolds in short movements alternating between orchestral strings and voice, with lyrics that call into question the nature of existence. Perception and reality are contrasted when Andrew Carroll and Jessi Williams ask one another, “Did I catch you dreaming, even believing you were alive?” Williams then searches for answers in fate. She sings, “Did you write the story? Are we the actors on the stage?” Things then reach the atomic level, as they sing together, “Pull back the curtain. See how the smallest things collide just to make us, in a dream for white light.” Perhaps god is a human dream, but death remains the great mystery. As “Running” accelerates to its climax, they cry, “Did you keep your promise? Or was your promise what you gave to see the great unveiling, where there’s nothing left to save?” By the end, Carroll and Williams shout, “Don’t stop running!” They plead with desperation–their lives depend on this.
Continue readingOriginally a 2003 sci-fi novel by Robert Charles Wilson, Blind Lake, the duo comprised of Lotta Wenglén (guitar, bass, keyboards, drums, vocals) and Måns Wieslander (guitar, drums, bass, vocals) derived their band name from the book where in a small Minnesota locale, through alien technology, scientists are able to follow the everyday lives of aliens on a distant planet. The paranormal subject matter aptly reflects the Böste, Sweden based duo’s approach to art, music, philosophy and the perfectly normal events in life which remain perfectly unexplainable.
Continue readingPatrick Watson’s new music was recorded at Capitol Studios in Los Angeles and Pierre Marchand Studio in Montreal. Of the record, some of which was debuted at private concerts in small loft spaces, Watson explains, “I started thinking about things in a very mechanical way. I found it interesting how we would use our senses to come up with an emotional reaction. As I get older you get to know yourself better and I realized that a lot of my emotional reactions were mechanical responses and that was hugely influential. I didn’t want to be a robot. But the reason why we are superior to computers is that we have emotions and I realized that emotions are mechanical so the only thing left between us and robots is curiosity and inspiration – and I don’t think you can program that into a computer. That’s definitely where I was at when I started writing the record.”
