After announcing their forthcoming album Aureate Gloom just before the holidays, of Montreal are back today to announce a North American as well as share the album’s second track. “Empyrean Abattoir” picks up right where lead single “Bassem Sabry” left off — shape-shifting and touring through a variety of genres while sounding distinctly of Montreal throughout.

It was recorded in Brooklyn’s Secret Project Robot by Jonathan Schenke who’s worked with the likes of Parquet Courts and PC Worship. The album captures the glory of the Creepsound– at times sublime, crusty, swirling and headbanging. It’s like Mötörhead kicking Superchunk’s ass and Soundgarden cheering them on. Or the Melvins eating the Cure. Real rock and roll with juice and bile and sweat and heart.

The band also releases the music video for “Honest”, the first single from the highly anticipated album. “Honest” was written by the group and produced by Jacknife Lee (U2, Snow Patrol, One Direction).
